Something strange is happening around the United States at exactly the same time: defence investors are pulling back, foreign governments are becoming less important buyers of American debt, voters are deeply unhappy with the economy, and some of Washington’s closest allies are building alternatives to the systems they once depended on America to provide. Meanwhile, Putin is proposing a summit with Trump and Xi to discuss Ukraine without Ukraine or Europe in the room. This video follows those threads to ask whether they are separate problems, or signs of a much bigger shift in who still trusts Washington, who still finances it, and who is already preparing for a world where America is no longer at the centre of every table.
