‘The Choice Is Quite Simple’: Finnish President Stubb Pulls No Punches In Big Wake Up Call To Europe Oct 13, 2026

Description

Can small nations hold their own against global superpowers? Finnish President Alexander Stubb explains how countries like Finland and Norway can punch above their weight as U.S.-China rivalry, geopolitical tensions and the race for artificial intelligence reshape the world order.

Speaking at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, Stubb highlights the strategic importance of critical minerals, quantum technology, secure networks and icebreakers. He argues that smaller countries can gain influence by controlling key technologies and resources that other nations need.

Stubb also warns that AI is not just a technological competition but a question of values, democracy and global cooperation. As the world enters a period of uncertainty, can smaller nations carve out a meaningful role between Washington and Beijing?

Watch the full remarks for Stubb’s take on the changing world order, strategic dependencies and the future of global power.
